Chairman of Dept. of Restorative Dentistry – Faculty of Dentistry – Alexandria University, Egypt
Mona Ghoneim (BDS, MSc, PhD) is currently Professor & Chairman of the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, Egypt. She is also a visiting Professor in the Operative & Esthetic Dentistry Department at Beirut Arab University, Lebanon, since 2007. Professor Ghoneim is also the Director of the Esthetics & Restorative.
She graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, with Top of the Class honors: Excellent Degree with Honor, along with 8 university awards. Prof. Ghoneim then obtained a Master’s degree in Operative Dentistry, Endodontics & Fixed Prosthodontics from the Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, and a PhD degree from the Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, Egypt, and the School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA, in 2006.
Professor Ghoneim was also a Visiting Scholar at the Restorative Sciences Department, School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA (2003-2005). She was also a Research Resident at the Egyptian National Research Committee for Studying the Egyptian Mummies, Higher Supreme Council of Antiquities, Egypt.
She is the Alexandria University Representative in the University Educators Forum in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, as well as a Sustaining member of the AACD, IADR (International Academy of Dental Research), and AADR (American Academy of Dental Research) USA.
Moreover, she was selected by the University Relations Committee of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) as a Judge for the Postgraduate Students Poster Competition from universities inside and outside the United States of America for two consecutive years (2017-2018). She was also a Scientific Committee member for Africa Health ExCon 2023.
Prof. Ghoneim conducted the first workshops in Egypt on “Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry” at EGY-Health 2021 and “Towards Robotics & Artificial Intelligence: Targeting Oral Health Care in Africa in the Digital Age” at Africa Health ExCon, June 2022. Dr. Ghoneim also conducted a series of IADR webinars on “Robotics & Artificial Intelligence: Targeting Oral Health Care in Africa in the Digital Age” on Jan 9-10th, 2023, and the IADR Nigerian Division 20th Scientific Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry in November 2023.
She also served as Vice President of Al Manama Health Congress, where she conducted 3 days of live presentations on “Artificial Intelligence: New Horizons & Beyond,” in Bahrain, December 2022, and was a Panel member of the Bahrain Entrepreneur Organization (AI in Dentistry). Moreover, she was the President of the Arab Health Authorities Forum held in Bahrain, September 2024, where she organized a 3-day forum titled Dentistry & the 5th Industrial Revolution.
In October 2024, Prof. Ghoneim was the President of the EGY-Health Congress, which focused on and included 3 days of Clinical Practice Problem-Based Scenarios with a digital dimension. Additionally, Prof. Ghoneim organized the Africa HealthExCon Oral Health Congress, which took place on June 7-10, 2023. She was also the Head of the Scientific Committee & Workshops at the Alexandria International Dental Congress 2022 & AIDC 2024.
Prof. Ghoneim is an International lecturer on Adhesive Dentistry & Esthetic Restorations and is a speaker for the British Academy of Implant & Restorative Dentistry (BAIRD), QC8H Leeds, UK, as well as for the Comprehensive Dental Implant Certificate Program and the Clinical Master of Oral Implantology Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Alexandria Official Book (2009).
Additionally, she is a Key Opinion Leader for many international dental companies.
